One of the core missions of the WESCO International Charitable Foundations is to provide assistance to victims of natural disasters with a focus on WESCO related employees and their hometowns. Following the aftermath of the 2005 hurricane season, many people in the WESCO family experienced the loss of home, automobiles, and personal belongings. The WESCO International Charitable Foundation through its disaster assistance program, provided an opportunity for current and former WESCO employees to apply for assistance to help them through the initial impact of the natural disasters.

An important mission of the WICF is to support charitable organizations throughout North America which touch the neighborhoods and experiences impacting employees, suppliers, customers, and our communities. The American Kidney Fund provides support to kidney patients in need and education to the public regarding kidney disease. WICF became aware of the American Kidney Fund through the assistance that it provided to a long-time employee of WESCO and transplant recipient.

One of the WICF’s goals is to provide the necessary means to help individuals meet basic life needs after catastrophic events and various unexpected emergency situations. WICF, through its emergency financial assistance program, provides an opportunity for current and former WESCO employees to apply for financial and other assistance to help them through such difficult times.

The Allegheny County Daffodil Days raises hope and support for cancer treatment, research, and a cure. It is the largest program of this type for the American Cancer Society throughout the U.S. Project Hope delivers bunches of daffodils to treatment centers, nursing homes, and hospitals throughout the area.

An important mission of the WICF is to support local and national community organizations which promote human development such as the Special Olympics. The Special Olympics is a life-changing movement of people helping people. The athletes of Special Olympics -- over 20,000 strong here in Pennsylvania -- are constant reminders of all that is right with the human spirit.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Pittsburgh is to make positive differences in the lives of children by providing one-to-one mentoring programs and related services that help youth discover their highest potential and grow to become responsible adults leading productive and rewarding lives. The WICF recognizes the volunteerism of WESCO employees to this important organization, and had made a donation to support the organizations efforts and mission.

The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching hundreds of communities.

An important mission of the WICF is to support local and national non-profit organizations that strive to improve the well-being and health of members of the community such as The Mid-Atlantic Connection for PKU and Allied Disorders (MACPAD). MACPAD is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, dedicated to improving the health and well being of individuals and families affected by Phenylketonuria (PKU) and related metabolic disorders.

The mission of MACPAD is to enrich the lives of individuals and families of individuals with inherited metabolic disorders by disseminating information, providing supportive activities and encouraging the exchange of ideas.

Founded in 1954, WQED was the country's first community-owned television station and became a production center of national programs for the Public Broadcasting Service. Over 1,000,000 households of viewers and listeners rely on WQED each week, more than any other Pittsburgh educational or cultural institution. WQED's mission is to provide educational, cultural and informational products and services that enhance and engage the community.
